Reference

memex log

Record a finding and hand back a one-line ref.

What it does

Reads a finding from stdin and prints its ref, exactly, on one line, so ref=$(memex log impl <<'EOF' … EOF) works. The title is the body’s first line.

An agent ends its run by logging the full report and returning one line, report: <ref>; the next reader runs memex show on it only when it needs the detail. Streams need no declaration.

Logs are immutable: a correction is a new entry that cites the old ref. memex prunes old logs as new ones arrive (see Configuration); what is still true belongs in a README, a header, a case or a collection.

Flags

--agent <id>
Who wrote it. $MEMEX_AGENT works too.
--to <ids>
Makes it a message; recipients find it with search to:<id>.
--tag <tags>
Tags to filter on later, with tag:.
--json
Prints {"ref", "path"}.

A finding

repo
$ memex log impl --agent worker-2 --tag namer,show <<'EOF'
show walks hub READMEs
`show <file>` now lists "cited by", through crates/README.md.
EOF
impl:20261013-214107-show-walks-hub-readmes
